The Walang Gutom Kitchen, the latest innovative program against involuntary hunger and food wastage of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), will remain open during the holidays except Christmas and New Year’s Day.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Walang Gutom (No Hunger) Kitchen will continue to provide food on Dec. 24, 30, and 31 which are holidays. It will also continue to operate on Dec. 26 to 29 which are regular days,\u201d Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, also the DSWD spokesperson, said in a news release on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Dumlao said the kitchen will be closed on Dec. 25 and on Jan. 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Walang Gutom Kitchen is open to all families and individuals in street situations (FISS) and those experiencing involuntary hunger,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Individuals from diverse backgrounds found on the streets were taken to the Pag-Abot processing center for initial assistance through the Walang Gutom Kitchen.<\/p>\n
The Walang Gutom Kitchen was launched on Dec. 15 to address involuntary hunger and reduce food wastage by turning donated surplus food from hotels, restaurants, and organizations into hot, nutritious meals.<\/p>\n
