The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has sufficient funds to conduct a special election in Cavite, Malaca\u00f1ang said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) had informed the Palace that the poll body may use its existing funds for the electoral exercise.<\/p>\n
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia earlier said the poll body would need some PHP200 million for the holding of the elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cKinausap po natin ang DBM. According to DBM, mayroon pa pong pondo na nasa Comelec at maaari naman po nilang gamitin po iyon. Sapat po ang pondo (We spoke with the DBM. According to the DBM, the Comelec still has available funds, and it can use those funds for the election. The funds are sufficient),\u201d Castro said in a Palace press briefing.<\/p>\n
The statement came following the Comelec\u2019s request for funding assistance for the conduct of the special polls.<\/p>\n

The special election in Cavite\u2019s 4th District is scheduled for August 2026.<\/p>\n
The election will fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the expulsion of former representative Francisco Barzaga Jr.<\/p>\n
Barzaga was expelled for disorderly behavior, conduct unbecoming of a member, and violations of the House Code of Conduct.<\/p>\n
The Comelec, meanwhile, has set the certificate of candidacy filing period for the special polls on July 15 to 17 while the election period will start on July 30.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe intend to be able to proclaim the winning member of the House of Representatives the morning after the election of Aug. 29. So, more or less Aug. 30, early hours, we want to make the proclamation,\u201d Garcia said in an interview at the sidelines of the 1st Coordination Meeting for the Special Election for Member, House of Representatives, 4th District, Cavite Socio-Economic Building Burol Main, Dasmari\u00f1as City, Cavite on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo far, we have not seen any circumstances that may prevent the conduct of the election,\u201d the poll body chief added.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Garcia is hoping that Aug. 29 would be declared a holiday in the city to encourage more voters to participate.<\/p>\n
